The day of German reunification: something to think about.
I still remember it vividly. It was the fall of 1989 when my parents and I were sitting glued in front of the TV with tears running down our faces watching thousands of people marching through Leipzig calling for freedom of opinion and political reforms. Then, only a few weeks later, East Germans crossed the border, while East German leader Erich Honecker and his party resigned and finally the wall came down. This whole event was especially significant for us since my parents were both from the Eastern federal state of Thuringia and their families had been torn apart by the wall.
Twenty-four years later a lot has changed - some good and some not so good.
